What Do You Know About the Climate Change?

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time. It is a global problemthat requires a global solution. Climate change is caused by a build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. These gases are emitted when we burn fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas. They trap heat from the sun and cause the Earths average temperature to rise.

This might not sound like a big deal, but it could have devastating consequences. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicts that if we dont take action to reduce emissions, the average global temperature could rise by up to 4.5°C by the end of this century. That might not sound like much, but it would be enough to melting the polar ice caps and causing sea levels to rise by up to 3 metres. This would lead to floods, droughts and extreme weather conditions around the world. It would also put millions of people at risk of losing their homes and their livelihoods.

We are already seeing the effects of climate change. The Earths average temperature has risen by 1°C since pre-industrial times, and 2016 was the warmest year on record. We are seeing more extreme weather events such as heatwaves, floods and hurricanes. And the impacts are being felt most keenly by vulnerable communities around the world who are struggling to adapt.

The good news is that we have the technology and know-how to tackle climate change. We just need the political will to do it. Renewable energy such as solar and wind power is becoming increasingly affordable and efficient. We can also make our buildings and transportation systems more energy-efficient. And we can plant trees which help to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

But time is running out. We need to take urgent action to reduce emissions if we are to avoid dangerous levels of climate change. That means changing the way we live and doing it quickly.
